Pusha T is now adding film producer to his repertoire and will serve as executive producer for the upcoming crime thriller Respect The Jux, which shared a first look clip on Tuesday (April 26).
The film follows the story of Cat, played by Jaime Lincoln Smith, who was left in Jamaica by his mother at 11 years old so she could start a better life for her family. Six years later, the opportunity to leave Jamaica has finally come for Cat and his sister, and the pair fly out to their mother and wind up in a small, dumpy apartment in Brooklyn, New York. As poverty and violence threaten his family, Cat becomes obsessed with achieving the American dream by any means necessary.
In the clip, Cat’s first introduction to America is a fellow classmate saying the American dream should strictly be for Americans, followed by a racist exchange with a bully in the hallway. The film hits select theaters on May 6.
King Push has been hard at work rolling out his latest album It’s Almost Dry, which dropped on Friday (April 22) and features appearances from Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, JAY-Z, Pharrell, Don Toliver and more. The Clipse rapper also unveiled a new line of merch for the project on Monday (April 27), including a merch box set that’s designed by Kanye West to look like a “brick” of cocaine.
The box set includes two limited-edition t-shirts designed by Ye and a copy of the album, all packaged up to look like Pusha T’s purported drug of choice. The package is selling out for $65, with all orders shipping on June 17.
