Roddy Ricch‘s sophomore effort is close.
The platinum-selling rap star premiered the first single “Heartless (Live From LA)” during his 2021 Grammy Awards performance on Sunday night (March 14), then followed up by releasing the official audio to all streaming services. The song is produced by Mason Wu, Str8cash and YC and becomes Roddy’s first solo release since dropping the Mustard-featured “High Fashion” in May 2020 – which made for the fifth and final single from his debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial.
The 2020 HipHopDX Rookie Of The Year also performed his chart-topping single “The Box,” which was officially certified 8x-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in January. The song was nominated in the Song Of The Year category, but it ultimately lost out to H.E.R.’s “I Can’t Breathe.”
Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial was released in December 2019 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 101,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. The 16-track effort featured appearances from Gunna, Lil Durk, Meek Mill, Mustard, Ty Dolla $ign and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and has since been certified 2x-platinum.
In preparation for the next era, Roddy wiped his Instagram clean – though this isn’t the first time he’s done so in recent months. In February, he cleared out the page and took to his stories to tease the third iteration of his Feed Tha Streets mixtape series, which first debuted in 2017 with Volume 1 and was last visited with November 2018’s Feed Tha Streets II. It’s possible he’ll be releasing the tape as a warm-up to the album, revisiting what was once a popular strategy from artists at the height of the mixtape era in the late 2000s through the mid 2010s.
