Saweetie Celebrates J. Cole Grammy Competition – After Freestyling For Him In College

Saweetie has come a long way since making her debut in 2018 with her first EP, High Maintenance. She’s become a superstar and elevated her branding to another level in 2021, and she’s now a Grammy-nominated artist thanks to her “Best Friend” collaboration with Doja Cat.

The Bay Area native is nominated in the Best Rap Song category alongside some heavy hitters in the rap game. JAY-Z, the late DMX, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye West are going up against Saweetie and Doja, who also happen to be the only women on the list. She took to her Twitter to celebrate the win with her fans.

“I’m speechless I wish I had the words to express how I feel but I’m just so grateful,” Saweetie wrote after receiving news of her nomination. “Being acknowledged for all the hard work me & my team have been doing feels AMAZINNNNNG thank you #TeamIcy for stickin with me through thick and thin y’all some real ride or dies IKDR!!”

Saweetie relished at the moment but fans were talking about one name, in particular, that stands out from the rest of the nominations given Saweetie’s brief history with the rapper.

J. Cole is nominated for Best Rap Song for his collaborative effort with 21 Savage and Morray titled “m y . l i f e.” For those who remember, Saweetie met J. Cole awhile ago on one of his tours and busted out a freestyle for him. Social media roasted the ICY GIRL for her less than stellar bars, but it looks like Saweetie got the last laugh.

Last week a fan celebrated the fact Saweetie is in the same Grammy conversation as the person she rapped for all those years ago who ended up being great in his own right. Saweetie liked the tweet, which led fans to reshare the video of her freestyling for Cole.

Towards the end of the freestyle, Saweetie lets Cole know that she will be at the top with him one day, manifesting what she wants out of her music career. It’s safe to say she did it now that she’s competing with him for the golden gramophone trophy.

Saweetie Once Freestyled For J. Cole & Now She’s Ready For Collaboration

Saweetie revealed she would like to have J. Cole produce a record for her during an interview with Complex in June. In Applying Pressure: The Off-Season Documentary, Cole said he doesn’t want to be known as the rapper who doesn’t work with others, so there’s a possibility the two can get something done.
