For close to two decades Skillz has dedicated a song to recapping the noteworthy events of the year, from highs, lows, memes, scandal and more. After previously announcing he wasn’t going to recap the madness of 2021, the Virginia native changed course and delivered what he’s calling “the end of an era” with his 2021 Rap Up.
Rapping over JAY-Z’s “Encore” from The Black Album, Skillz goes over everything from 2021 including the insurrection at the Capitol, losing legends such as DMX and Biz Markie, the trolling between Lil Nas X and Boosie Badazz, Jadakiss and The LOX delivering the most impressive Verzuz performance of the year, DaBaby getting “canceled” and more.
“Thats it for me yall,” he wrote on Twitter Saturday (January 1). “A even 20. And if you know me? You know trolling aint me, Im too old for that. All I ask is that this time next year? You respect my decision. Thanks for everything. Couldnt have done wit w/o yall! #theendofanera.”

Since 2002, Skillz has taken the year in review to task, inspiring other rappers such as Uncle Murda.
On Friday (December 31), Murda released his version of the “Rap Up,” in a move he considers his last time taking on the concept. More than doubling up on Skillz’ release, the New York native decided to salute Alpo Martinez’s killer, the separation of the Joe Budden Podcast’s original roster and more.
