Miami, FL – Some promoters/venues aren’t willing to take the risk of booking Travis Scott following 2021’s deadly Astroworld Festival. On Sunday (July 17), Rolling Loud Miami CEO/co-founder Tariq Cherif announced Kanye West was being replaced by Kid Cudi due to “circumstances outside of [their] control.”
Many suggested Scott would’ve been a more suitable replacement at the Hard Rock Stadium event, but Cherif explained it simply wasn’t possible. As he wrote via Twitter, “Tried to convince Ye to stay on the lineup, but he wasn’t having it. Venue won’t allow Travis because of Astroworld deaths.”
Ten people lost their lives either during the Astroworld Festival or after succumbing to their injuries days after, resulting in hundreds of lawsuits against Scott, Live Nation and other promoters involved. Scott has maintained for months he had no idea what was unfolding in front of him.
“Travis didn’t really understand the full effect of everything until the next morning,” his attorney Ed McPherson told Good Morning America at the time. “Truly he did not know what was going on. Understand that when he’s up on the stage and he has flashpots going off around him and he has an ear monitor that has music blasting through it and his own voice, he can’t hear anything, he can’t see anything.”
As for Kanye’s disappearing act, he didn’t really offer an explanation — at least not publicly. Rolling Loud Miami simply tweeted, “We were looking forward to Ye headlining Rolling Loud Miami 2022,” the statement reads. “We spent months working with him and his team on the performance. Unfortunately, Ye has decided that he will no longer be performing.
“This is the first time a headliner has ever pulled off our show and though we don’t take it lightly, we wish him the best. We look forward to welcoming Kid Cudi as a headliner in Miami and we can’t wait to see what he has in store.”
Rolling Loud Miami takes place from Friday (July 22) to Sunday (July 24) with headliners Kid Cudi, Future and Kendrick Lamar scheduled to take the Hard Rock stage alongside a laundry list of additional talent such as rom Playboi Carti, Lil Durk, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Baby, Kodak Black and Baby Keem.
