Tyler, The Creator, Kanye West, J. Cole + More Reflected In 2022 Grammy Award Nominations

Los Angeles, CA – The Recording Academy unveiled the 2022 Grammy Award nominations on Tuesday morning (November 23). Par for the course, they included a variety of Hip Hop and R&B acts, including Tyler, The Creator, Drake, Nas, Kanye West and J. Cole who all received nominations in the Best Rap Album category.

Nas took home the gilded trophy in the Best Rap Album category for King’s Disease last year, beating out Jay Electronica, D Smoke, Royce Da 5’9, Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist.

Meanwhile, DMX received a posthumous nomination in the Best Rap Song category for “Bath Salts” featuring JAY-Z and Nas from Exodus, which was completed not long after his April death. Saweetie, Baby Keem, Kanye West and J. Cole round out the category.

As for Best Rap Performance, Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar grabbed a nod for “Family Ties,” Cardi B for “Up,” J. Cole, 21 Savage and Morray for “My Life,” Drake, Future and Young Thug for “Way 2 Sexy” and Megan Thee Stallion for “Thot Shit.”

Lil Nas X also appears to be a Grammy favorite this year — he was nominated for five Grammys in the Record of the Year, Best Melodic Rap Performance, Album of the Year and Video of the Year categories.

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards takes place on January 31, 2022. Prior to the telecast, the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theater at 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on GRAMMY.com and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel.
