There’s been a heated debate within the Hip Hop community regarding whether Doja Cat is a rapper or a pop star. After watching Doja Cat’s dynamic Coachella set Sunday (April 17), Wale had to set the record straight on Monday (April 18) as Doja’s skill set is not to be questioned.
“Doja cat one of the best rappers out male or female alien or otherwise,” he stated matter-of-factly. “Anybody that raps for real .. can listen to her raps and can clearly see she is a rapper. I’m just now finding out there was a debate …,,I’ll just say this I’ve been doin this thing for a minute now .. when that girl drops somethin on one of these “rap” beats ?? You gon see.”

A fan replied to Wale for him to stop calling her a rapper in favor of her being a “pop star,” but he thinks both can be true.
“Both can be true. My ears work,” Folarin responded.

The Doja Cat/rapper debate caught fire in late March when Remy Ma voiced her opinion that the Grammy-winning artist shouldn’t be labeled a rapper during an interview with Drink Champs.
“I don’t think she’s a rapper,” Remy Ma said. “Let’s be clear with that. They put her in the rapper category, I don’t think she’s a rapper. But she makes dope records, and I think she’s dope.”

Earlier in April, Doja Cat took home a Grammy in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.
