One of the many projects recently added to Charli XCX’s fast-growing filmography is the romantic drama Erupcja, which got its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall. Today 1-2 Special has revealed the first official trailer for the Pete Ohs-directed flick, which stars Charli as a woman named Bethany on vacation in Warsaw with her soon-to-be fiancé Rob (played by Will Madden, who folks online are already pointing out bears a resemblance to Charli’s real-life husband George Daniel).
When a volcanic eruption prevents Bethany and Rob from getting home as planned, Bethany decides to reunite with her estranged childhood friend Nel (Lena Góra). From the looks of the trailer, Bethany and Nel use the circumstances — natural disaster, impending matrimony — as an excuse to delve into debauchery.
Charli, Ohs, Góra, and Jeremy O. Harris co-wrote the Erupcja screenplay. In an interview pegged to the film’s premiere, Charli and Ohs said that Clairo was a big inspiration for the character of Bethany (although Bethany does not appear to be a musician with great bangs). Charli also recently premiered her Brat-themed mockumentary The Moment, and this weekend we’ll see the wide release of Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation, for which Charli did the soundtrack.
