Young Dolph was shot and killed on the afternoon of November 17 as he picked up cookies at Makeda’s Homemade Cookies. The bakery’s owner, Maurice Hill, said his employees had just waited on Dolph when bullets rang out from a white Mercedes-Benz.
The 36-year-old rapper, who was in town for his annual turkey giveaway at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Despite Young Dolph’s murder, Paper Route Empire artist Snupe Bandz and other supporters stepped up and helped execute the event, promising to continue it for years to come.
“It’s very important because we still have folks out here unfortunate and probably don’t have money to buy turkeys,” Snupe told FOX13. “We’re just representing Young Dolph. And, just keeping the legacy going. And, getting people to know we’re going to do this every year.”
Gun violence has decimated the rap community over the last couple of years. Another man was shot as fans were gathered at Dolph’s makeshift memorial outside of Makeda’s Homemade Cookies on November 18, Three men — 23-year-old Terrance Jones, 19-year-old Jailon Nelvis and 22-year-old Tavis McQueen — were arrested and charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless endangerment and theft, among other charges.
