Eminem Called Fat Joe Last Week To Talk Him Out Of Rap Retirement

Fat Joe’s Instagram Live show The Fat Joe Show is on a roll. After fielding high profile guests such as Faith Evans, Jermaine Dupri and Royce Da 5’9, the Diggin’ In The Crates OG chopped it up with Big Sean, who released Detroit 2 at the top of the month.

During the conversation, Fat Joe asked Sean Don to name his Top 5 rappers dead or alive. As he rattled off names such as Eminem, Kanye West and JAY-Z, he also took a minute to give Joe his flowers and remind the Terror Squad legends he’s one of Eminem’s favorite rappers.

“And you being one of the most inspiring MCs to me and one of my favorites because of not just the impact you’ve had but the longevity, too,” Sean told him. “You defy the odds and I think that’s a true testament to your character. I know that’s why Eminem is such a big fan of yours too ’cause I talked to Eminem and he said that you were one of his favorites.”

Joe then revealed Eminem actually called him last week and encouraged him to keep rapping.

“That’s nuts to me, bro,” Joe told Sean. “That’s nuts. You know, Em called me last week — I don’t want to keep throwing his name around [laughs] — but the man was trying to talk me out of retirement last week. This is all I ever wanted my whole life, for one of the rap gods like to call me and tell me, ‘Yo Joe, you nice. You need to get back in there.’”

Big Sean Rattles Off Eminem & Kanye West Among Top 5 Rappers Of All Time List

In December 2019, Joe told CBS This Morning he was toying with the idea of putting the mic down, saying, “I’m almost out of here. I think I’m retiring. I think it’s time to give it up. I’ve got mad at all the other rappers who said that they’re retiring and they came back. I’m a strong advocate against that so I’m really… I’ve been flirting with it. I’m like 85 percent gone.”

He added, “I’ve never felt like this in my life. My daughter’s turning 14, I really want to watch my daughter. I really want to take her to school every day.”

Joe linked with producer Dre for his latest album Family Ties last December, which boasted contributions from Cardi B, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Mary J. Blige, Remy Ma and Ty Dolla $ign, among others.

The song “Lord Above” with Mary J. Blige and Eminem kicked off another beef with Nick Cannon after Slim Shady (once again) set his sights on the former Wild ‘N Out host and his ex-wife Mariah Carey.
