New York, NY – Pharrell Williams is still hearing about an interview he did with REVOLT’s Drink Champs co-hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN last December.
During the conversation, the Grammy Award-winning artist said he’d snitch in a second if it meant retaining his freedom. But just like Uncle Murda — who condemned Williams for the admission earlier this month — DMX wasn’t feeling the “Happy” singer’s sentiments. While speaking to Drink Champs in a recent episode, X was reminded Williams actually said it on their show — not on Instagram like he originally thought.
“He’s a musical genius,” he says. “It just fucked me up when I saw some interview he did. Some shit on Instagram, like, ‘Oh, I’m snitching.’ It’s a difference between, ‘I’m not going to jail for something you did,’ as opposed to ‘I got FBI on speed-dial.’ What are you calling them for?”
“Listen, if they come get you then, you know, that’s when you say something. ‘Alright, I didn’t do it.’ That’s the most you say. But don’t call — what you callin’ for? ‘This shit just happened.’ Nah, nah. They ain’t even asking you if you callin’ ’em.”
Williams’ initial comments came up while discussing a wild night out with Lil Wayne.
“Literally, I’m not a tough guy, I’m staying my ass inside and the fucking FBI is on speed dial, bro,” Pharrell said at the time. “I’m not a fucking tough guy. You people say things about snitching … I’m fucking snitching! Don’t talk to me about all that! Everybody plays their part, this is a movie, you guys, everybody plays their part. I am snitching! Don’t do nothing around me, I’m not built for the jail life.”
Upon hearing this, Uncle Murda weighed in as well and told Drink Champs in a separate episode he was temporarily angry with Williams following the interview.
“The difference was — you know what I didn’t like about the Pharrell thing?” he asked. “It was just like, why promote that. We in an era now where muthafuckas is thinking snitching is so cool, and definitely because of a n-gga like Tekashi.
“So, you got these muthafuckas making snitching like, a cool thing, and I was just mad at Pharrell for promoting that. Definitely on this platform. This is a big platform right here. I was just mad at him for promoting it at the time. That’s not cool. I was mad at Pharrell for doing that. No personal beef with him.”
