Initially a vehicle for multi-instrumentalist Andrew Smith, the Hartlepool group settled into a defined three-piece line up, crafting gilded guitar pop constructions in the process.
New album ‘Once Home, No Longer’ is out on June 26th, and it’s a fine, literate song cycle aimed at dispelling the lingering gloom of the everyday.
Gorgeous new single ‘In The Blink Of An Eye’ is online now, a song that deals with unemployment, and grind that comes with simply having too much time on your hands.
The Devil makes work for idle hands, or so they say, and in the case of Mt. Misery that period was transformed into a heavenly piece of guitar pop, one that puts Clash in mind of early Real Estate cuts, or the deft introspection of ‘Grand Prix’ era Teenage Fanclub.
The band explain that the new single “is the oldest song on the album, written at the beginning of 2018.”
Andrew Smith adds: “I was without a job and spending a lot of time at home feeling a bit directionless, so the lyrics were formed around that. It’s the first song we learned to play together so it’s an important one for all of us.”
