T-Pain is sincerely sorry to every celebrity who’s direct messaged him and had no response within the past couple of years. He simply didn’t know a separate folder existed on Instagram.
The singer took to Instagram on Wednesday (April 28) to share a video of him scrolling through all the DMs he’s accidentally left unread, with some big names showing up. As it turns out, the likes of Viola Davis, YBN Nahmir, Diplo, Fergie, NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns, Keri Hilson, pornstar Nina Kayy, Princess Pia Mia and soccer player Daniel Sturridge had all reached out, and all T-Pain could do was shake his head in disbelief.
He wrote in the caption, “I swear!! I’m just now seeing all these messages and mentions TODAY!!!! How do I super apologize? Press conference? Town hall meeting? I’m dumb.”

T-Pain’s influence on Hip Hop during the 2000s is clear as day, but not everyone was on his wavelength when he started out. Speaking to Billboard in March, he talked about people doubting his use of Auto-Tune that ended up taking the music industry by storm.
“What I was led to believe was that I didn’t have a good idea,” he said. “This was a bad idea. Even other artists, big artists, were telling me, ‘Stop. Don’t do that anymore. Nobody’s gonna like that on your next song. You can’t do that for two songs; you can’t have two songs with that same effect on. You got to do something different. Get off of that.’ I was like, ‘Nah, I like this a lot. I’m gonna keep doing this.’”
He added, “And the crazy thing is one of the first artists that used it was one of the people that told me to stop using it. That was the craziest thing in the world. I didn’t understand that, but I see why. You’re trying to get me out the way so that you can be the only one using it. That’s not happening. I know what’s going on. But that’s just the nature of the business.”
