French Montana has spent more than a decade cultivating a space in rap where he’s friendly with just about everyone. The evidence can be found on plenty of his albums, including the recently released They Got Amnesia. However, in a new interview with Ebro Darden’s Rap Life Radio show, Montana got candid about watching those same friends reach new heights in rap and move beyond him,
“Yeah, it’s hard,” Montana told Ebro around the nine-minute mark. “I’m going to celebrate, but right now, I just, I want to stay laser-sharp to focus on getting some things out the way. That is like certain time. What I realize about people that be affected by those kind of things, sometime the train pass you and you don’t even realize it.
“You chasing the high instead of chasing that train that you should be on. You know what I mean? I feel like I seen a lot of my peers that came from less fortunate places and accomplished so many things.”
French Montana continued, “I feel like I could have been… I’ve been seeing a lot of my peers that just surpassed me and I’m like, “Yo, how they doing it?” Yo, they act like they drinking with you… Like how Akon used to be with the Shirley Temple acting drunk. And I’d be like, “Yo, you don’t even drink.” He’d like, “Man, I got to act drunk with these people.” I like, “Yo, I got to learn from that.””
They Got Amnesia comes packed with features from Rick Ross, Pop Smoke, John Legend, Lil Durk, Doja Cat, Saweetie, Fabolous and more.
While Montana is being open about his personal feelings, he’s also burying old beefs, namely with 50 Cent. Continuing his They Got Amnesia promo run, the Bronx-bred rapper stopped by the Drink Champs podcast and revealed he was done being upset at 50 Cent — all thanks to the Black Mafia Family STARZ series.
