DaBaby and NBA YoungBoy released their collaborative mixtape Better Than You on Friday (March 4) and have apparently already earned a healthy paycheck — regardless of sales.
Taking to Instagram on Monday (March 7), DaBaby claimed they received a lofty seven figures for putting together the joint project, while revealing it took just 48 hours to record the whole thing.
“Y’all keep running up that mixtape,” he wrote alongside a clip of Ice Cube and Chris Tucker from the Friday movie. “me & YB made in 2 days & got $2.5 million for that. got these n-ggas in a FRENZY. Relax. #BETTERTHANYOU OUT NOW. GO TWEET BOUT IT.”

Released on Interscope and Atlantic Records, the project consists of 12 tracks between DaBaby and NBA YoungBoy with no features. According to HITS Daily Double, the mixtape is projected to sell around 25,000-30,000 units in its first week.
DaBaby previously spoke highly of NBA YoungBoy during an interview with The Rap Pack in April 2020.
“I like NBA YoungBoy a lot,” he said. “He just turned 20. I know he don’t get the credit he deserves for his music because of the stigma that’s surrounding him. He’s like crazy talented. After my music, I probably like his music the most, just because of his story and how he puts it out there. How shameless he is with putting it out there and the type of music that he continues to make.”
He added, “And not only that, how versatile he can be with it. How he can make this type of song and this type of song, I like it.”
