Metro Boomin Defends Young Thug & Gunna Amid RICO Case: 'YSL Is Not A Gang & Never Been A Gang'

As Young Thug and Gunna’s RICO case picks up steam, Atlanta producer Metro Boomin, who has worked extensively with both artists, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the pair’s Young Slime Life collective being deemed a gang by the federal government.

“YSL is not a gang and never been a gang fool,” the “Space Cadet” producer wrote on Twitter. “YSL is a registered LLC and has provided countless jobs and opportunities for underprivileged black people and really just all people cause that’s how big Thug heart is.”

He continued, “I’ve seen first handed thousands of black people and their families lives changed for the better over the past 10 years now #they are trying to cut the head off the snake because #they see how much bigger it gets every year.

“They get terrified every time an iconic black leader emerges with so much influence, respect, power, and appeal so they throw some bullshit charges together to lock him up and slow the movement down. Look at American history it’s been a pattern for 100+ years.”

Metro concluded his rant by calling out those that were criticizing his thoughts from behind their keyboard, and accused those trolls of being “worse than the DA.”

“These brothers need love, support, and prayer right now not jokes, criticism, or opinions,” he concluded.

Young Thug and Gunna will remain behind bars at Fulton County Jail for the time being, as the YSL duo were both denied bond on Wednesday (May 11) during video appearances in front of Judge Robert Wolf.

Thugga was declined bond after Judge Wolf heard arguments from both the prosecution and the Punk rapper’s attorney, Brian Steel. The judge deemed the YSL head a flight risk after Assistant District Attorney Damian Smith said he posed “a clear risk of hindering the administration of justice given that we have not apprehended everyone on the larger indictment.”Smith also noted that a “large quantity of drugs and several firearms” were seized from Thug’s home during a raid at his Atlanta estate earlier this week, which helped convince the judge that he’d commit further felonies if released.

Authorities pinned seven new charges to Young Thug as a result of the raid, ranging from possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute to possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. Judge Wolf added he didn’t want to complicate matters in relation to Thug’s RICO charges since they’ll be presented in front of another judge at a later date.

The “pushin P” lyricist was also denied bond on Wednesday in connection to the RICO indictment after he turned himself in earlier this week. Gunna faces one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
