21 Savage Compares Him & Drake To Iconic NBA Duo After 'Jimmy Cooks' Collab

Drake dropped his surprise album Honestly, Nevermind on Friday (June 17), featuring just one guest appearance from 21 Savage on the closing track “Jimmy Cooks.” The Memphis-flavored song is one of the rare rap efforts on what Drizzy has labeled a “dance” album.

Following the album’s release, 21 Savage hopped on Twitter with a bold claim regarding his latest collaboration with the 6 God. According to the 29-year-old rap star, “Jimmy Cooks” adds another tally in the win column for him and Drake, and he illustrated that point by making a lofty comparison to a legendary NBA duo.

The Atlanta rapper posted a still image from his and Drake’s 2017 collaboration “Sneakin’” alongside a photo of Shaquille O’Neal and the late Kobe Bryant holding the NBA Finals MVP and Larry O’Brien trophies following the Los Angeles Lakers’ series win against the Indiana Pacers in the 2000 NBA Finals.

Coincidentally, 21 Savage’s tweet comes just days after Drake compared himself to Kobe after his team won another championship in his SBL basketball league. During the postgame press conference, Drizzy likened his performance to Black Mamba’s double-double in Game 6 of the 2010 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.

Named after Drake’s Jimmy Brooks character from Degrassi, “Jimmy Cooks” is the latest in a long line of collaborations between 21 Savage and Drake. Their last tag team came on “Knife Talk” with Project Pat from last year’s Drake’s Certified Lover Boy. They’ve also worked together on “Mr. Right Now” and the unreleased “Issa.”

21 Savage is really flexing his features muscle as this new song comes just a few weeks after he linked up with Pharrell and Tyler, The Creator on “Cash In Cash Out.” The song was accompanied by an animated music video that was over a year in the making.
