Mount Kimbie will chair a special fabric mix this summer.
The long-standing mix series has gained plaudits over the years for its curatorial prowess, with the likes of Daniel Avery, Midland, The Streets, Helena Hauff and Overmono recently taking up the mantle.
Mount Kimbie’s incoming fabric mix lands on July 31st, and it leans in on the duo’s clubbier impulses. The long-standing Warp duo have moved from fragmented dubstep to frosted techno, flirting with shoegaze on 2024 album ‘The Sunset Violent’.
The mix will contain two new songs, one of which is on streaming right now.
‘Monroe’ pivots between future abstraction and honouring the past, with Mount Kimbie building it as an ode of sorts to their 2017 Mica Levi featuring ‘Marilyn’.
Speaking on the mix, Mount Kimbie’s Kai Campos says…
“The mix is based around the last two years of getting deeper into the clubbier side of Mount Kimbie. I wanted to avoid over-thinking it or approaching it in a more conceptual or mix tape fashion and represent what I’ve actually been playing in clubs. A lot of these I have rinsed in the last couple of years so it is a good time to celebrate the music and stop playing them for a while. I thought the more cerebral side has been covered in other mixes in the past and wanted to present something more straight ahead with a few nods to Mount Kimbie’s past as well”.
Tune in now.
