Posted by Los Angeles musician Tin Lung has officially shared his debut EP, titled ‘EP 1’, released via Lavoir Records. This new electronic project signals a significant departure from the rock-oriented repertoire previously associated with producer and artist Rett Smith.
Comprised of four tracks, this cavernous new work represents a profound creative pivot for the musician. It is a strictly analog creation, eschewing software instruments and artificial intelligence in favor of a tactile, hardware-driven sound. Tin Lung’s sonic landscape occupies the space between the desolate, dystopian textures of Burial and Boards of Canada, and the deconstructed industrial flair of early Arca.
Reflecting on the project, Smith notes: “Tin Lung is my music in its purest form. I’ve been creating nonstop in sonic seclusion, a creative rebirth, and the most free I’ve ever felt as an artist. This music isn’t new to me, I’ve lived inside it for decades; it’s only new as my output.”
The EP was recorded in Los Angeles at Smith’s own Tularosa Sound studio and mastered by frequent collaborator Stefan Brown at Abbey Road Studios in London. Smith’s previous production credits include notable guitar work on Hudson Mohawke’s ‘Cry Sugar’.
‘EP 1’ serves as an opening transmission, setting the stage for a debut full-length project currently expected in March 2027.
