LoneLady Confirms ‘Hinterland Home Recordings’

LoneLady will release her compilation ‘Hinterland Home Recordings’ on January 29th. The musician’s excellent 2015 album ‘Hinterland’ remains a perennial go-to in the music world, a wonderful fusion of post-punk, home-made electronics, and pop melodies.

The process behind the album illustrates LoneLady’s exacting methods, and she has returned to her vaults for ‘Hinterland Home Recordings’. Due to be released on January 29th via Warp Records, the artist — real name Julie Campbell — recorded these tapes on basic equipment at her home in a Manchester tower block. Testimony to her assured creative vision, the lo-fi methods sit incredibly close to the fully realised studio album.

LoneLady recalls the environment in which these tracks were born:

My bed was right next to the table cluttered with instruments, writings, the 8-track, books, various instruments and a Fender Twin amp wedged in… Telecaster, acoustic guitar, bass, childhood cheap Yamaha keyboard, a cello, Roland percussion pad and various effects units and miscellany…
GarageBand really enabled me to explore mixing and production, enabling me to deepen my musical visions.. Each song built up and meticulously worked into like a painting, each detail like a brushstroke. At the time I didn’t really need much else; I had the guitar and these detailed worlds I was building. I had my little walks along the canal. The laptop with GarageBand was a new thing for me. I was experimenting, listening, mixing, learning. With no outside input, just communing with my self and my instruments, and the landscapes of Manchester. I really poured my whole soul and vision into these recordings.
