Brooklyn Duo Nine Perfect Lives Sign To AD 93

Brooklyn duo Nine Perfect Lives have officially signed to AD 93. The label, widely regarded as a crucial tastemaker imprint, continues to display fantastic curatorial skills, amassing a catalogue that remains both eclectic and remarkably unified.

The new signing feels like a natural progression for the label. Formed by Helena Straight and Stella Wave—both known for their work in the Alternative Rock band Hello Mary—the duo crafts a raw sound defined by dreamy, immersive textures. Their debut single, ‘Die’, serves as an excellent introduction to their sonic world; it is an absorbing, beguiling piece of music where inherent darkness is illuminated by the beauty and impeccable detail of the arrangement.

Shuffling between Art-Rock sensibilities and intimate, folk-hewn songwriting, ‘Die’ arrives accompanied by a music video directed by Milo Hume. Reflecting on the track’s origins, Helena Straight explains: “I started writing ‘Die’ when I was living in LA and Stella was still in Brooklyn. We made deliberate efforts to stay in touch and work on music but I wasn’t yet sure when or if I was moving back to New York. I wrote and recorded a demo of the song in a few hours and realized that it was a direct response to Stella’s heartbreak and confusion about my impulsive move across the country.”

She continues, “Fleshing out the demo together felt effortless and reinforced our creative bond which was compromised in the context of Hello Mary at that time. ‘Die’ became the first NPL song so we are pleased for it to be our first single.”
