Alice Phoebe Lou – Glow

Posted by

Cinematic, yet vulnerable is the best way to describe this album and it’s something that Alice Phoebe Lou embraces in this new body of work. The soothing vocals of the talented artist have been admired by the likes of Paul McCartney, Rolling Stone, The Sunday Times and more. This isn’t a surprise, the second this third album is opened up, it’s difficult to leave each chapter without wanting to know more.

The 12-track production brings out a relaxed tone, where every feeling of love is felt, from falling in love and never wanting to leave, to the heart being broken and dealing with the loss of love. Whether it’s ‘mothers eye’ or ‘how to get out of love’, the listener is able to sail away on this calm, collected ship.

The South African knows how to make every track unique and have its place in the tracklisting. As the halfway point of the album is brought to attention, the calmness of ‘heavy // light as air’ is transitioned into the melodic and slightly faster paced ‘dirty mouth’ and it leaves this writer wanting more.

Each track truly feels like a chapter in a book, the creative lyricism begs the passage onto the next chapter, but the tranquility of the guitars combined with Alice’s vocals allows for the repeat button to be used again and again.

Alice has written from the heart, talked about her experiences in life and used the raw emotion to create a magical sensation that can only be described as enchanting.

7/10
