Jevon – Fell In Love In Brasil

Hailing from West London, Jevon has been consistently thinking outside of the box, whether that be through his early charmer ‘Bipolar,’ that resides on his SoundCloud page or his recent debut album. After spending time with his grandad’s record collection, to whom in fact the album is dedicated, the rapper, producer and singer became instantly drawn to his Brazilian heritage.

‘Fell In Love In Brasil’ is a sonic celebration of Jevon’s roots and culture that simulataneously illustrates the struggles faced growing up, having been sent to Coventry at 15 for his troublesome antics. The project kicks off with ‘Forest Fire,’ a dazzling track filled with infectious rhythms and sweet melodies that births an overwhelming urge to get up and dance. The self-proclaimed “Bad Boy From Inglaterra” weaves between Portuguese and English with his blazing bars and vocals, showing off his versatility as a musician.

Lead singles like ‘Playboy’ or ‘Gracie Brothers’ are explosive from the first few seconds in, displaying Jevon’s hard-hitting punch lines and confident hooks, tastefully dabbling in auto-tune here and there, adding that extra layer to his character. Don’t get it twisted though, Jevon just as easily steals hearts with luxurious R&B lead tracks like ‘Girl From Bahia’ that transport listeners back to the heavenly summer romance of their dreams.

Working alongside Rincon Sapiência and Marcos Valle, both highly praised Brazilian musicians, the album delves into the rich Latin sounds of samba and bossa nova with Jevon’s own twist.

Unarguably, ‘Fell In Love In Brasil’ is gorgeous, it’s refreshing and is bringing something exciting to the music landscape.

8/10
