No, Ice Cube Isn't A Scottish Lord

Ice Cube’s claims to be a Scottish Lord have been called into question over the weekend.

The rap icon and internationally recognised actor boasted in an online video that he had become a Lord of Caledonia, following a £29.99 purchase of a new title, and a tiny plot of land.

Clash reported on this in a tongue in cheek fashion – we’re aware of the scheme mentioned, and that it doesn’t really confer anything of the sort.

After a few people got in touch via Twitter we have decided to post a full rejoinder of this, and point readers to the work of Malcolm Combe.

The University of Strathclyde academic has written a full rebuttal of the scheme, picking apart the legality – or otherwise – in the full glare of Scottish law.

In short: Ice Cube isn’t a Lord, nor does he own a tiny part of Scotland – he’s got an expensive certificate, though.

That being said, if the image of an N.W.A. legend strutting around Huntly doesn’t tickle you, then perhaps you’re focussing too much on the small print.
