50 Cent Says Instagram Shadow Banned His Account

50 Cent thinks he’s been shadow banned by Instagram. The G-Unit boss, who has 25.9 million followers on the platform, belives he’s been stuck on that number because the social media platform is hiding his content from other users.

“I have been shadow banned this page has been stuck at 25 million for a year,” he wrote. “Smh but i’m every where so i don’t care. #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi #Starz #ABCforlife #Ghost #RasinigKanan #BMF.”

Shadow bans prevent hashtagged Instagram posts from showing up in searches. 50 heavily uses hashtags on his popular account, often promoting products and TV shows when they’re completely irrelevant to what he’s sharing.

Although Instagram has never explicitly confirmed it shadow bans users, the social networking service addressed complaints about blocking searchable content in 2017.

“We understand users have experienced issues with our hashtag search that caused posts to not be surfaced,” Instagram said in a statement. “We are continuously working on improvements to our system with the resources available.”

It added, “When developing content, we recommend focusing on your business objective or goal rather than hashtags. Having a growth strategy that targets the right audience is essential to success on Instagram. Good content on Instagram is simply good creative. And it follows the same three creative principles you’d apply to any marketing channel.”

According to Instagram, the three principles are:

  • Have a distinct visual presence: Include your logo, an iconic brand element, a brand color or even a product you’re known for to make your content distinct and easily recognizable for the community.
  • Be a storyteller: Tell a story that supports your business goal. Whether you want to raise awareness or increase sales of a specific product, make sure the imagery and copy latter up to your main goal.
  • Put thought into your creative: Be well crafted to stand out. This doesn’t mean you need to build additional content for Instagram. It just means you need to put as much love and care into the content to inspire as you do in your business.

50’s Instagram has often been a source of controversy due to his unfiltered opinions and antics. Last year, his account was deactivated for a brief time, but he insisted it was his own doing as opposed to any type of suspension.
