Latto isn’t one to back down from a conflict and has been known to clap back at haters online who have criticized her music or how she handles herself. On Thursday (July 14), she had to do it again when fans expressed disinterest in her new single.
Despite having just dropped her critically-lauded sophomore effort 777 back in March, Latto announced that she’s dropping a new track titled “Pussy” this Friday (July 15). The single thematically seems to have been made in response to the Supreme Court’s recent overturning of Roe Vs. Wade and fans on Twitter took issue with the political backdrop of the single.
“My ovaries ain’t for you to bully!!!!” Latto wrote alongside a teaser of the track on Twitter.
“Using serious issues to promote your song is wild,” replied a disgruntled Twitter user, to which Latto wrote back: “Orrrr I took my frustrations to the booth like a RAPPER & using my platform to spread awareness.”
A second user accused Latto of profiting off women’s rights violations and not doing enough to implement change.
“I actually am donating proceeds,” the “Big Energy” rapper wrote in response. “Yall be the same ones saying ‘why u gotta post everything’ if I do & assume I’m not doing it if I don’t post it lol however I AM using my power (platform) to make a change regardless shut yo fake woke ass up what are YOU doing???”
She continued: “Y’all complain about female rap lacking substance but then say I’m ‘capitalizing’ when I speak on shit. help me understand???”

“Pussy” will be the first new offering from Latto since March’s 777, which featured appearances from 21 Savage, Lil Durk, Nardo Wick, Kodak Black, Lil Wayne and Childish Gambino.
The album debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200, marking Latto’s highest-charting project to date. As for the album’s lead single “Big Energy,” the track peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was regarded as a feminist anthem.
“Omg I had a really good day today!!! PROUD OF ME!!!!!” she tweeted of the accomplishments back in April. “The internet will try to take ur happiness away from u and have u scared to celebrate all ur wins big or small… man I came from nothing we celebrate EVERYTHING!!!!”
In an interview with Variety at the time, Latto reaffirmed that her love of women was what inspired her to make “Big Energy.”
“It’s a cool way to bring self-love back into the community and to women, specifically,” she explained. “When you make these uplifting songs, people think it has to be corny and it doesn’t… It can be in a cool way where you don’t even realize you’re practicing self-love when you listen to this song but you are in a fun, exciting, fresh way.”
