Richmond, VA – While the music community continues to mourn the loss of MF DOOM, his artist namesake will now live forever in Richmond, Virginia.
The Virginia capital city announced on August 5 that their bike lane street sweeper will be named MF BROOM in a fitting tribute to the late underground legend.
Venture Richmond made MF DOOM’s victory official on Friday after winning the March Madness-styled bracket against the likes of creative twists such as “LeBroom James,” “The Grim Sweeper,” “Kate Brush,” “Meryl Sweep,” “Dirt Reynolds” and “Bike Dyson.”
“The people have spoken! We crowdsourced name ideas, you voted, and the name of the new @DPW_RichmondVA bike lane sweeper is… MF BROOM,” the city’s Twitter account revealed. “The@CityRichmondVA will host a naming ceremony—details coming soon. Until then, enjoy your clean bike lanes!”

This isn’t the first city tribute to MF DOOM either. Last year, the City Council of Long Island in New York approved the dedication of a street to the rapper born Daniel Dumile.
“KMD – MF DOOM Way” runs on East Hudson Street, between Long Beach Boulevard and Riverside Boulevard, where DOOM and his brother Dingilizwe “DJ Subroc” Dumile spent their formative years.
MF DOOM quietly passed away on October 31, 2020, but his wife didn’t announce the elusive rhymer’s death until months later on December 31, 2020.
Look for a naming ceremony to take place in Richmond in the near future.
