The Hip Hop community was understandably shocked last New Year’s Eve when MF DOOM’s wife revealed the legendary MC had died two months prior. As tributes for the elusive MetalFace poured in, his unreleased music hung in the balance.
But on Friday (May 7), another chapter was added to DOOM’s storied legacy with the release of the Czarface (7L & Esoteric and Wu-Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck) collaborative album Super What?
The 10-track project contains DOOM’s first posthumous verses on standout tracks such as “Doom Unto Others” and “Break In The Action.”
Super What? also includes Run-DMC’s DMC, Del the Funky Homosapien, Kendra Morris and Godforbid. Esoteric shared an Instagram post about the album release and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the late DOOM.
“Czarface & MF DOOM: “Super What?” was recorded and slated to drop in April of 2020. When COVID-19 struck and the world stopped, we chose to pull it, focus on family, and fine tune a few elements on it. What you’ll be hearing was finalized, mixed & mastered in the summer of 2020, and it’s our honor and privilege to share it with you Friday.
“I speak for everyone involved when I say we were incredibly fortunate to have collaborated with DOOM…he was a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-duplicated emcee, producer, and visionary. We wish peace and healing to his family, friends and everyone touched by the gifts he shared with the planet. MF DOOM FOREVER.”

Czarface and MF DOOM last teamed up on their 2018 collaboration Czarface Meets MetalFace, which received a 4.3 out of 5 at HipHopDX.
“When we are starting a project, there is always one song that sets off the progress of the album,” 7L told DX at the time. “I think everything we did after ‘Meddle With Metal’ was just what came natural. I don’t ‘think’ we are trying to school anyone, we just like to let things happen organically.”
