Moneybagg Yo Gets Reminded Of Future’s Existence After Claiming ‘Lean National Anthem’

Moneybagg Yo is feeling good about himself and rightly so with the success of his A Gangsta’s Pain album hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200, but his opinion was checked after a claim he made about his song “Wockesha.”

In a since-deleted tweet, he wrote, “Wockesha the official lean national anthem,” but was quickly reminded by Twitter users about Future’s authority when it comes to the subject of lean.

One person said “Excuse me ?” with a screenshot of Future’s “Purple Reign,” while another responded, “nahh codeine crazy or purple reign is the anthem but be safe out there fs.”

Moneybagg Yo recently collaborated with Future on “Hard for the Next” that peaked at No. 49 on the Hot 100, so he’s just as much of a fan as everyone else. In March, he called the Atlanta rapper “one of my favorites” and revealed he’s in his Top 5 rappers.

As someobody who used to drink lean, lyrics like “withdrawals, I’m feelin’ different, every day I need a dose” and “I hope I don’t OD” are part of a daily battle Moneybagg knows all about. He talked to Billboard in April about the process of recording “Wockesha” despite now being clean.

“You had to just blank out, you had to just go into the studio and close your eyes and think about everything you’ve done,” he said. “That’s what I did, just close my eyes and reflect back on everything.”

A clip from Lil Wayne’s 2009 interview with Tim Westwood is used at the beginning of the song, with Weezy also set to appear in the upcoming video.

During a January 2020 interview with Genius, Moneybagg Yo revealed he decided to quit lean when he didn’t like how it was affecting him.

“It’s a process, it’s hard,” he said. “First, you’re going to slow down, you’re going to yield a little bit. Then eventually, you’re just going to stop, you’re just going to hit the brakes and you ain’t going to even be going that way no more. You know what I’m saying? But I’m in the process of just stopping. I’m going to say that. I want to be 1,000 with you, 1K.”
