Myka 9 Lights Up In 'Upliftment' Video Featuring Derek Armstrong & DJ Zole

HipHopDX Premiere – Just in time for 4/20, Los Angeles underground Hip Hop staple Myka 9 is back with a new video for “Upliftment.” The track uses a sample of the 1994 Masta Ace classic “Born To Roll” and orchestration of guitarist/composer Derek Armstrong as well as scratches from DJ Zole.

The ensemble of horns paired with the distorted guitars meld seamlessly with the banging 808 drums as the Freestyle Fellowship MC spits about love and his political observations.

“I thought it was a good idea to use parts of the Original Concept song ‘Knowledge Me’ and Masta Ace’s song ‘Born To Roll’ as an homage to various eras and artists in Hip Hop,” Myka tells HipHopDX. “Plus, it bumps!!!”

Meanwhile in the visual, Myka takes a smudge stick to one of his homies in an attempt to wash any negativity away from his body before taking a stroll through nature. As he raps, “Don’t mess with a playa like me/I’m just doing my thing.”

“Upliftment” follows the video for “Portrait,” which the Project Blowed vet dropped last month. The track boasts contributions from Blak Rapp Madusa and Billy Pilgrim.
