Pharrell Williams shared a fan’s disdain for the singer’s 11x platinum hit “Happy,” which after its release in 2014 went on to be his biggest single.
“No song annoyed me like Happy by Pharrell did,” the fan wrote, to which The Neptunes co-founder replied, “Same.”

“Happy” was inescapable when it appeared on the soundtrack for Despicable Me 2. The track propelled to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014, and eventually was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
A live rendition of the track ended up winning the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, and the single’s long-form visual also won the Grammy for Best Music Video.
This year Pharrell has been hard at work behind the scenes, serving as executive producer on Pusha T’s highly-anticipated Daytona follow-up It’s Almost Dry alongside Ye, and helping Kendrick Lamar with his latest work Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.
The iconic musician has also been busy bringing back his Something In The Water festival after a two-year hiatus, which he told Complex is incredibly meaningful because it takes place in his hometown of Virginia on Juneteenth weekend, which he helped the state officially recognize as a federal holiday.
“I’m just happy about the spectrum [of artists],” Pharrell said of the lineup. “The amount of artists we got, it’s really good stuff. Really amazing careers, and also the ones we can’t announce, those are some super special ones. I’m grateful. It’s going to be crazy.
“Between the lineup, where it is, the significance of having it on Juneteenth weekend, and the space is literally Independence Avenue, Washington Mall. Our big corporate sponsors that are coming in, and all the panels that they want to put on, and the giveback that we’re going to have for the 757 is amazing.”
