Rowdy Rebel returned on Friday (January 22) to hop on his first song since being released from prison in December after serving six years behind bars. Rebel teamed up with NYC staple DJ Funk Flex for the drill-influenced “Re-Route,” which arrived with a visual as well.
Funk Flex and the GS9 rapper head to the Bronx to spin the block and take over an abandoned warehouse, where Rebel lets the game know he’s back and coming for the throne. He also pays homage to fellow Brooklynite Pop Smoke, who passed away in February 2020 while Rebel was in prison.
“Middle fingers to the opps, they know how we rock/It ain’t no options, R.I.P. to Pop Smoke/If we find out who did it, y’all know we gon’ pop them/Red beam, .30, shot ’em, drop ’em, I’m just bein’ honest,” he raps.
Rebel has plenty of heat in the stash and has no plans to let up in 2021 after regaining his freedom. He took to his Instagram Story on Friday (January 22) telling his fans to run up “Re-Route” and they’d be rewarded with the release of a Lil Uzi Vert collaboration next week.

Rebel was released from prison on December 15, 2020. The “Computers” rhymer was first arrested alongside Bobby Shmurda and 13 other GS9 members in 2014 on a 69-count indictment stemming from RICO charges. Shmurda could be getting out earlier than his expected December 2021 release date, as court documents suggest the GS9 affiliate will be regaining his freedom on February 23.
