Tory Lanez recently stopped by Hot 97 to deliver a five-minute freestyle over Cassidy’s classic “I’m a Hustla,” but the man behind the original song couldn’t help but notice some similarities to one of his old freestyles. And it wasn’t the first instance, either.
Cassidy took to Instagram on Wednesday night (July 21) to share a 60-second clip comparing Tory Lanez’s lyrics with his own. The video claims Lanez stole the Philly rapper’s flow not only in his 2021 freestyle, but also in 2017 when he rapped over Nas and the Bravehearts’ “Oochie Wally” beat. Cassidy uses his early 2000s freestyle at Hot 97 as evidence.
“I’m @torylanez favorite rapper #RNS,” he wrote. “Ain’t no denying that. #GoatGang. Show me the respect I deserve & #LetsGetToThisChicken #BARSisBack #DaEnergy.”
Saigon responded in the comments, “Flag on the play….. Flagrant foul…. WTF. Is this legal?”

Cassidy isn’t the only one who feels this way. The video also shows people in the YouTube comment sections thinking Tory Lanez sounds just like him.
“When is he gonna give Cassidy his props tho,” one user wrote. “Steal so many of his Cassidy’s old flows and bars.”
Another said, “Not only is this Cassidy’s beat but he modified Cass’s multiple syllable rhyme with punches, like as the punchline flow.”
“He spittin but it sounds like Cassidy ghost wrote that lol if Cass rapped them same bars it would sound better imo,” someone else wrote.
The Swizz Beatz-produced “I’m a Hustla” peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2005 and appeared on Cassidy’s album of the same name. Sampling JAY-Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” the single became one of the first ringtones to go platinum in 2006.
Elsewhere in Tory Lanez’s new freestyle, he continued to claim he was framed in relation to the Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident in July 2020.
“Shout out to DaBaby, Roddy Ricch and Lil Baby,” he rapped. “What I’m about to say is gon’ sound a little crazy, but it’s true so don’t flame me/Y’all all would have got your awards if they didn’t frame me.”
