Warren G Rallies Against Los Angeles Gang Violence In 'Life Is Beautiful' Video

Posted by

Warren G’s reputation as one of the more beloved sons of Los Angeles rap has been stamped since 1994’s Regulate. With all eyes on L.A. for Super Bowl weekend, the G-Funk pioneer is giving flowers to his beautiful city while also laying down ground rules for all visitors àla another West Coast OG, Ice-T.

The Grammy Award-winner released the video to his new single “Life Is Beautiful” on Sunday (February 13), just hours before his step-brother Dr. Dre, is expected to deliver one of the more highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime shows in recent memory alongside Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige.

“We was taught to earn stripes to get famous,” Warren raps amongst the palm trees-lined street. ” My definition of a gangsta is ‘M.O.D.’ and that’s ‘Money Over Danger.’” Meanwhile, a bassist lays down parts of the instrumental as Warren G preaches about ending the violence plaguing L.A.

The black-and-white visual comes equipped with a warning from Los Angeles Police Department police chief Michael Moore comparing Los Angeles during the holidays to the film series The Purge.

“My message to anybody coming to Los Angeles, especially during the holiday season, is don’t,” he said in a 2021 interview. “It’s like that movie Purge, you know instead of 24 hours to commit your crime, these bad guys do it 365 days to commit whatever they want. We can’t guarantee your safety.”

Los Angeles has seen numerous acts of violence committed against rappers in the city, from hometown heroes such as Drakeo The Ruler and Nipsey Hussle to Pop Smoke and most recently, Kodak Black.

Warren G is again acting as an ambassador for the city. He recently took part in a “This Is LA” feature for NFL Network ahead of the Big Game alongside Tyra Banks, Danny Trejo, Vanessa Bryant and Lauren London.
