Art School Girlfriend returns with new single ‘In The Middle’.
The songwriter – real name Polly Mackey – has produced some excellent work, blending electronic tones with neat art-pop elements.
There’s a gothic sheen to new single ‘In The Middle’ – perhaps appropriate, given that she frequently records at London studio The Church.
The hushed tones are reminiscent of The xx and their twilight appeal, but there’s a punch to the gut in the lyrics that offsets the sonic beauty.
Rising and falling, Art School Girlfriend sings “you’re a river running fast and I jump right in” before her voice is enveloped in sub-low tones.
Tom Dream directs the video, in which Polly Mackey wanders through a sea of dancers lost in their own worlds.
Tune in now.
