Cordae Admits He Lied To Music Icon Stevie Wonder As 'From A Bird's Eye View' Album Arrives

Cordae is one of the few rappers lucky enough to have a feature from music icon Stevie Wonder. During a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, the YBN affiliate was asked how the “Champagne Glasses” collaboration came together for his latest album, From A Bird’s Eye View. As Cordae was looking back on his experiences with the 71-year-old legend, he revealed he was forced to lie to Wonder at one point.

“We linked up, we was working on records for four or five days in a row, and one time I’m in my room asleep and I’m laying down and he FaceTimes me,” he said. “I one-eye answer, ’cause I saved his number as like Stevland Morris [because] that’s what he told me to save his number as.”

But being so late, Cordae didn’t immediately realize who was on the other side of the iPhone. Instead, he ignored the call and wondered to himself, “Who the fuck is this?” But then Stevie Wonder called back again.

“I’m like, ‘Stevland Morris…oh! That’s Stevie.’ … It’s midnight, and he called me,” he continued. “I’m laying down in bed, I got my tank top on…and he was like, ‘What you doin?’ And it’s midnight, and I knew he was going to tell me to pull up to the studio, but I didn’t wanna tell him I’m laying in bed.”

Cordae also admitted he couldn’t wrap his head around Wonder’s inability to see because he was just so “adept” in the studio.

“I didn’t believe he was blind,” he said, “And then I almost tripped him up and I was like, ‘Oh he’s blind for real.’”

From A Bird’s Eye View arrived on Friday (January 14) with features from Lil Wayne, H.E.R., Lil Durk, Gunna, Nas, Eminem and, of course, Stevie Wonder. Previously released tracks “Super” and “Sinister,” both of which received official music videos, are included on the new project.
