After landing a few punches while aboard a JetBlue flight, Mike Tyson was seen partying it up with Rick Ross and Ric Flair 24 hours afterward.
Iron Mike was seen smiling and smoking it up alongside the rap mogul and wrestling legend as they entertained the crowd during the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference afterparty at LIV Miami.
Tyson was originally asked to speak at the weed conference on Thursday (April 21), but event organizers reportedly canned his appearance following his brutal beatdown on a rowdy passenger aboard his incoming JetBlue flight. Organizers said cutting Tyson from the program was “due to a flight change.”
As reported by TMZ, the legendary boxer was caught on camera on Thursday (April 21) punching a male passenger who was later identified as Melvin Townsend, III. A witness claimed Tyson grew frustrated after Townsend wouldn’t leave him alone following a selfie the pair took together. A source told the outlet Townsend was “extremely intoxicated and wouldn’t stop provoking the boxer in his seat.” Initial reports said Townsend threw a water bottle at Tyson, but his lawyer Matt Morgan later denied this allegation.
“When Mike Tyson boarded the plane, he became overly excited,” the lawyer told TMZ. “At first, their interaction was cordial. At a certain point, Mr. Tyson clearly became agitated by an overly excited fan and began to strike him in an excessive manner. This situation could have been avoided simply by contacting the flight attendant. Our client denies throwing a water bottle prior to being struck by Mr. Tyson.”
Townsend, 36, has also reportedly had several run-ins with law enforcement. He was once even convicted of grand theft, fraud, burglary, possession of controlled substances, and trafficking in stolen property. He has also been incarcerated on two separate occasions, once for 20 months and once for 15 months.
