Los Angeles, CA – Compton-bred rapper AD recently described how his first interaction with Kendrick Lamar morphed into a tense standoff during an interview with No Jumper.
On Saturday (May 28), AD discussed his initial introduction to the TDE-turned pgLang MC during a studio session in Compton and revealed Kendrick Lamar didn’t exactly extend a cordial welcome to him due to a case of mistaken identity.
“You want to know a crazy thing about Kendrick [Lamar], bro?” AD started off. “My first encounter with him he thought I was somebody else. He lowkey tried to press me.”
AD continued by explaining how K. Dot thought he was “from a different hood,” and began interrogating him about his affiliations.
“I guess some n-ggas jumped him back in the day,” he added. “And I came to the studio and he was mad. He was like, ‘You from Almond block?’ And I was like, ‘Nahh.’ Almond Block is another hood in Compton. He was like, ‘You is from Almond Block’ and I was like, ‘Nah I’m over here,’ and we were cool after that. But he was mad like, if I was from Almond Block, he would’ve got his get back on me that day.”

Although AD was “outnumbered” that day (TDE’s Grammy Award-winning mixing engineer Derek “Mixedbyali” Ali was his only associate), he says he wouldn’t have backed down if Kendrick Lamar and his crew actually took issue with his presence. It’s likely a good thing the pair of rappers didn’t come to blows, though.
The Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers lyricist could’ve possibly unleashed some repressed aggression during the altercation considering Kendrick Lamar previously and passionately rapped about getting jumped in front of his mother on his 2017 DAMN. album track “Element.”
He even broke down the harrowing moment during his 2018 interview with Big Boy’s Neighborhood, detailing how the squabble went down at the Avalon Swap Meet and that his mother was actually the one who broke up the fight. Check out the clip of Kendrick Lamar breaking down the attack below.
