Famous Dex Says He's Been Sober For 5 Months: 'God Is Good'

Famous Dex raised the alarm among his fanbase when he nodded off while live streaming on Instagram in 2018. Rumors of drug abuse started to fly and his team eventually confirmed he was struggling with an opiate addiction. Dex initially denied he was using and instead, blamed his micro-nap on sleep deprivation.

“The video that’s right now going viral, that’s kind of so stupid?” he said at the time. “For one, I’m a human being and I work my ass off. And once you put overtime, overnight and then you come back home at 4 something in the morning and you decide to go live — hey. Don’t let the world trick you and be fooled.”

But shortly after, Famous Dex checked himself into rehab. His recovery didn’t seem to last long and once he was out, fans were once again concerned by another video of him looking higher than a kite. Over a year later and Famous Dex says he’s now in a a better place.

On June 1, Dex shared a tweet with his one million followers that read, “I’m 5 months sober. God is good.” Of course, his fans were elated by the news and offered their support.

Substance abuse isn’t the only challenge Famous Dex has had to face in recent years. He’s also been plagued by legal issues, too. In March 2021, he was charged with 19 different counts stemming from three separate incidences, including corporal injury domestic violence, threatening a domestic partner, exhibiting a firearm, inflicting bodily injury, dissuading a victim from reporting a crime, defacing property and illegal possession of a firearm.

Three months later, Dex was arrested during a hearing for allegedly violating a protection order set in place after another alleged domestic violence incident that took place in October 2020. He was immediately booked and held on a $200,000 bond. However, his jail stint was short-lived and he was out nine days later.

As Famous Dex fans applauded the rapper for his newfound sobriety, he vowed to follow every one of them on Twitter. As for new music, he has yet to announce anything.
