Last month, famous rock climber Alex Honnold scaled the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan without any ropes or equipment. It was the highest free solo climb of an urban structure in history (1,667 ft) and it was livestreamed on Netflix. It was noted that he was listening to a lot of Tool during the ascent, and now he’s shared the playlist he was streaming.
The playlist is very Tool-heavy, featuring several tracks from 1996’s Ænima, 2001’s Lateralus, and 2019’s Fear Inoculum. In addition, there’s Senses Fail, Chevelle, the Used, Linkin Park, and a good chunk of Nothing More.
Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan reacted to it on ABC Audio. “What the heck were you thinking, dude?” Keenan said. “It’s impressive! It’s extremely impressive, but, I mean, I wouldn’t make it past the first floor. I would fall to my death.”
Honnold also went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday to discuss the experience. Check it out below.
