Posted by Belfast-born artist Jack Coulter has officially launched a new exhibition in collaboration with the esteemed London-based gallery, Winsor Birch. The 32-year-old painter, whose work is deeply intertwined with his unique experience of synaesthesia—a condition where he perceives sound as colour—has curated a collection that bridges the gap between auditory sensation and visual expression.
Coulter’s creative practice has long been defined by his ability to translate music into tangible art. His portfolio includes a notable ‘musical painting’ created for Glastonbury Festival in 2016, as well as a high-profile collaboration with Sir Elton John, which resulted in his interpretation of the classic track ‘Tiny Dancer.’ His work has garnered significant acclaim, finding its way into the private collections of notable figures including Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, and the estate of Freddie Mercury.
After a three-year hiatus from public exhibitions, Coulter returns with a show titled With Every Light And With Every Song. Hosted by the acclaimed London gallerists at Winsor Birch, the exhibition serves as an in-depth exploration of his artistic evolution. The collection draws inspiration from a diverse array of musical influences, ranging from the soulful depths of Amy Winehouse to the experimental soundscapes of Radiohead, as well as contemporary voices like Olivia Dean and the legendary David Bowie.
In a move to enhance the viewer’s experience, the exhibition is designed to be fully multi-sensory. Through a partnership with Bang & Olufsen, Winsor Birch is providing high-fidelity headphones and speakers, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the specific audio that inspired each piece. This integration of sound and sight underscores the core of Coulter’s philosophy: that art and music are inseparable forces.
With Every Light And With Every Song is currently open to the public and will run until August 9th at the Winsor Birch gallery, located at 8 Duke Street, St James’, London.
