Mo3’s Convicted Killer Seeks New Trial, Claims Juror Slept Through Testimony

Kewon White, the man convicted for the 2020 murder of rapper Mo3 on a Dallas highway, is officially seeking a new trial. Legal representatives for White have filed a motion alleging significant jury misconduct, specifically claiming that a juror slept through hours of testimony during the eight-day trial.

According to reports from Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, the motion asserts that the juror’s behavior was both “open and obvious” throughout the proceedings. The filing describes the juror leaning back with her head tilted or dropping forward, effectively missing vital information presented by witnesses, attorneys, and exhibits. The defense argues that this lack of engagement violated White’s constitutional right to a trial by a jury of 12, as the presence of a sleeping juror compromised the integrity of the process.

This latest legal maneuver is separate from the formal appeal of his conviction that White filed in September. Texas Criminal District Court Judge Chika Anyiam is currently tasked with reviewing the motion and has 75 days to issue a ruling.

White was found guilty of capital murder last month and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case has drawn significant attention due to allegations that Yella Beezy paid White to carry out the shooting, citing an ongoing conflict between the two artists. While White has been sentenced, the legal proceedings surrounding the murder-for-hire allegations continue, with Yella Beezy scheduled to stand trial later this month.
