Ghanaian collective SuperJazzClub have unveiled the visual for bossa nova-inspired single ‘MAD’, their first offering of 2022.
The collective comprising of an inter-disciplinary network of artists, DJs, producers and filmmakers, came to be in Accra in 2018, united around an ethos rooted in freeform expression and experimentation, diverging from the prevailing mainstream sounds coming out of West Africa.
With ‘MAD’, SuperJazzClub sought to project emotions less documented in contemporary music, touching on spiralling anger and disillusionment as precursors to violence. To offset the dark subject matter, SuperJazzClub employ wispy vocal refrains and insouciant soft-rock flourishes that recall 60s psychedelic bands.
The accompanying visual is a manifestation of their anomolous brand of outsider music, taking the viewer on an escapade through a pleasure-seeking joyride, following a group of impressionable friends through the seedy underworld.
With a recent promo trip to France under their belt, the collective continues to broaden their horizons beyond the environs of their native Ghana. Get ready world.
Tune into ‘MAD’ now…
