This Prince Guitar Solo Will Blow Your Mind

The director’s cut of the legendary Prince guitar solo at the 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony has gone online.

Director Joel Gallen shot the ceremony, which included an all-star performance of ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’.

Part of a celebration of George Harrison’s work as a solo artist, the band was led by the late Beatle’s son, Dhani Harrison.

Stevie Winwood took part, alongside Harrison’s Traveling Wilburys cohort Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne.

So, a killer band, then…

Prince steps up for the guitar solo, and to say he killed it perhaps does a disservice to the impact that the sweet release of death can have.

Remaining a potent viral moment, Joel Gallen has gone back to offer an extended cut with even more Prince.

The film maker comments…

17 years after this stunning performance by Prince, I finally had the chance to go in and re-edit it slightly – since there were several shots that were bothering me. I got rid of all the dissolves and made them all cuts, and added lots more close ups of Prince during his solo. I think it’s better now.
