Yung Miami Discusses New Album and Career Evolution

GAIA BUCKLEY

Yung Miami has consistently proven that she possesses both a commanding professional drive and an unapologetic personality. With the arrival of her debut solo project, Watch Dis!, the artist leans into the sharp-witted style that turned her summer track "Spend Dat" into a viral success. In a recent conversation for XXL’s Keep It a Buck, she addressed industry misconceptions and shared her perspective on the current hip-hop landscape.

Throughout a career spanning nearly a decade, the Miami-based rapper has maintained a reputation for relentless consistency. She acknowledges the unique pressures placed on women in music, noting that the industry often demands more from female artists to achieve the same recognition as their male counterparts.

"Women are just hardworking, period. We are very strong in every aspect of life... I hate a lazy b**ch. Like, get up and go to work. I cannot just lay down, watch TV, and do nothing all day. I have to work. I have to make money. I have two kids to feed. So, what motivates me to keep working is just to be able to do whatever the f**k I wanna do in life."

Transitioning into this solo phase has required reflection on the experiences that shaped her identity. When asked if she would prefer to revisit her time with the City Girls or look toward the future, the rapper expressed a deep appreciation for her roots.

"I'm not going to lie, I relive my group career," she explained. "Like that was a very important time in my life. I really enjoyed being in the group at one point and, you know, that's how I started. So, I don't never take that for granted or I would never just act like that never happened. That kind of like prepared me to be a solo artist and I appreciate every aspect of life. So, I will relive that moment instead of jumping ahead five years from now because I feel like, you know, being in a group helped shape me to be a solo artist."

As she embraces this new era, Yung Miami remains focused on the balance between her personal life and her professional ambitions. Her debut album serves as a testament to her growth and her refusal to compromise on her creative vision.
