Chance The Rapper Gets Thanked By Soul Legend Anita Baker For Helping Acquire Her Masters

For a musician, getting control of master recordings is not an easy task, but for people like Chance The Rapper, the process is somewhat easier. On Saturday (May 28), soul legend Anita Baker thanked the Chicago rapper at a show recently for helping her get her masters back.

In footage shared online, Baker took a second out of a recent performance to point out Chance who was sitting in the audience, and thanked him for the kind gesture of getting her masters.

“You should say hello to a friend of mine by way of the music industry and by way of helping me, helping me to get a hold and ownership of my master recordings,” Baker said, pointing at Chance, who stood up and thanked the audience for the round of applause.

The admiration continued on Twitter when Chance retweeted the video of Baker thanking him and commented on how amazing the singer’s show was on Saturday night.

“I saw one of THE greatest performances of my LIFETIME last night,” Chance wrote. “Thank you so much @IAMANITABAKER for being an inspiration and an icon to so many of US.”

Anita added, “Had no idea you would be in our Midst. Such a nice Surprise. Brought Tears, to my eyes. Hope Ms. Essence enjoyed her Birthday ABXO.”

Chance retweeted her post and thanked her one more time for acknowledging his friend who was at the show with him saying, “WOW the fact that you remembered my friends name AND that it was her birthday just echoes what an INCREDIBLE PERSON you are on top of all that you’ve given artistically. Honored and blessed to call you friend miss
@IAMANITABAKER.”

Chance the Rapper knows a thing or two about acquiring master recordings as he’s preached about that and going independent numerous times. While he’s teaching people about contracts and labels, Chance has fans wondering when he’ll be making his official return to the music industry. Chano recently dropped off two new tracks in “Child of God” and “Wraith” featuring Vic Mensa. He also assisted Supa Bwe on “ACAB” in February.
