Denzel Curry Brings 'Melt My Eyez See Your Future' To Life During NPR 'Tiny Desk Concert'

Denzel Curry is an artist whose energy can fill a room, whether he’s tearing the roof down with mosh pit-ready anthems or blowing heads away with his pure rapping ability.

So it’s no surprise NPR picked the Florida rapper as their latest Tiny Desk Concert performer just weeks after bringing the series back to their Washington, D.C. offices following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Joined by DJ POSHtronaut and the Cold-Blooded Soul Band, Curry brought select cuts from his latest album Melt My Eyez See Your Future to life, including “Melt Session #1,” “Walkin” and “Troubles.” He also revisited a few old favorites from his growing catalog, putting a jazzy spin on “DIET_,” “Clout Cobain” and “Ricky.”

Curry’s performance marked the latest in NPR‘s series of Tiny Desk Concerts for Black Music Month, which spotlights artists who “represent the past, present and future of Black music.” Previous sets came from Larry June, Monica, FKA twigs, Ravyn Lenae and Maverick City Music.

Released on March 25, Melt My Eyez See Your Future boasts collaborations with T-Pain, JID, 6LACK, Thundercat, Robert Glasper and more. The project debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard 200 while drawing critical acclaim; HipHopDX gave the album a 3.7 out of 5 score, praising its concise introspection, social commentary and rich, dynamic production.

The album has been supported by the Melt My Eyez Tour, which swings through Albuquerque on Thursday (June 30) and Phoenix on Friday (July 1). The East Coast and Midwest leg kicks off Vancouver on August 16 before wrapping up in Boston on October 8.

The trek coincides with Denzel’s opening slot on Kid Cudi’s recently announced To The Moon Tour; the pair joined forces for the first time last week on Dot Da Genius’ “Talk About Me,” which also features JID. Watch the video below.
