Fans React To ‘Fucking Wild’ OVO Fest 2022 Ticket Prices

Fans of Drake, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj have voiced their annoyance at how deep they’re going to have to dig into their pockets in order to get tickets for this year’s OVO Fest.

Drizzy announced the return of his beloved Toronto festival in May and fans were abuzz with excitement following the news Weezy and Nicki would be on board for a Young Money reunion.

However, excitement quickly tempered once fans saw the price tag for entering the festival as tickets went on sale Friday (July 15).

Some fans have posted screenshots of the Ticketmaster webpage, highlighting how lawn seats for the festival ran upwards of $750 in Canadian dollars, or $575 USD. The prices jumped under the platinum level of ticketing as those who wanted to catch Wayne, Drake and Nicki on the floor would have to pay almost $2,100 Canadian.

“Charging $750 for tickets to sit on the grass at OVO fest is fucking wild. #ovofest,” Twitter user @danicaSnelson wrote.

The outrage continued from there as fans wagered between paying their mortgage over catching the likes of Lil Baby, Chris Brown and other surprise guests throughout the three-day extravaganza.

The reactions ranged from one fan proclaiming Drake and company better perform on their lawn due to the cost of lawn ticket prices to another using a meme of Drake checking his phone and musing about whether he should continue to wait in line for tickets as 2,000 people were waiting ahead of them.

The news of Young Money’s return to OVO Fest was teased as a “major announcement” by Drizzy on  Wednesday (July 13) and marks the first time since 2019 that the festival will be taking place. The All Canadian Northstars will open the festivities on July 28 before Brown and Lil Baby take to the stage on July 29. The YM Reunion is set to close out OVO Fest on August 1st.

“OCTOBER WORLD WEEKEND,” Drizzy wrote on Instagram Wednesday. “I am currently working on bringing OVO FEST around the world in 2023 for the 10th anniversary but of course we wanted to turn the city up for the summer!!!! More event announcements to come. Tickets on sale Friday on @ticketmaster.”

Drizzy’s kept busy in the lead-up to OVO Fest. In June, he released his surprise electronic music album Honestly, Nevermind which quickly went No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart — even after dividing fans.

The Toronto rapper recently found himself in the rumor mill as fans believed he was arrested in Sweden on drug charges on Thursday (July 14). Swedish authorities and his camp have since confirmed he wasn’t arrested and was instead at his hotel in the Scandanavian country.

“FYI: I talked to Swedish police and they told me Drake is not currently in their custody. (That was the only info they would give),” HuffPost senior editor Philip Lewis tweeted at midnight on Friday (July 15).

He later added, “From Drake’s team: ‘Drake is at his hotel and has not been arrested.’”  XXL and The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed the news.
