LeBron James is looking to make an album, but he won’t be gracing the mic like several of his NBA compatriots such as Hall-of-Famer Shaquille O’Neal, the late Kobe Bryant or Damian Lillard. Instead, King James seems to have his eye set on curating an album in the mold of a DJ Khaled project.
Late Wednesday (February 17), James brought up the idea on Twitter, but said he’ll look to his rap friends to help him out since he isn’t much of an MC. In the past, James has linked with rhymers such as Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Travis Scott and Snoop Dogg.
“My love for music is INSANE,” he began. “I think I’m going to do an album. Oh no I won’t be rapping or anything like that. I’m not crazy, I know what I’m great at, but I tell you one thing I do have. So many friends that can! Thinking out [loud].”

In 2019, the Lakers’ superstar served as an A&R on 2 Chainz’s Rap or Go to the League album, so he isn’t exactly a stranger to the process. Rappers often send James their music early and he’ll jam out to tracks on his Instagram Story, giving his rap friends some free promo and another ear to lean on.
With the Ohio native already on board to star in the highly-anticipated Space Jam sequel, some on social media are connecting this move to James helming the Space Jam 2 soundtrack with his behind-the-scenes music expertise and unlimited industry connections.

James also revealed a Lindsay Dawn Studios portrait he put up in his house paying tribute to both the late Nipsey Hussle and Laker legend Kobe Bryant.
“Wit me every single day when walking my hallways,” he captioned. “Continues to live on! #LEGENDSNEVERDIE”
