Lil Wayne Records 2nd Wiz Khalifa-Sampling Green Bay Packers NFL Anthem 10 Years Later

Lil Wayne’s sports allegiances are reserved for a select few teams. As the New Orleans rapper has shown time and time again, his biggest football allegiance resides in Wisconsin with the Green Bay Packers.

Seeing how the Packers and presumptive NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers hold the best record in the NFC, Wayne chose to dust off Wiz Khalifa’s “Black & Yellow” for a second tribute song to his beloved Packers.

Much like the 2011 version of the song recorded before Green Bay won its fourth Super Bowl in franchise history, the new “Green And Yellow” is a tribute to the history of the Packers and alluding to the stars of now, highlighting Rodgers, wide receiver Davante Adams, Aaron Jones and more.

Lil Wayne & Kodak Black Reportedly On Donald Trump’s List Of Potential Pardons

Explaining the track on Skip & Shannon: UNDISPUTED on FS1 Friday (January 15), Wayne revealed the new version of “Green And Yellow” came at the request of the Packers, who wanted everyone to hear the song at the same time.

“I did a song before and we had a good turnout, it was successful,” Wayne said. “We had good results and we’re trying to do it again this time. I took a lot of time into it, I worked on it for three days and I usually don’t do that.”

He added, “They had specific rules about this song. They don’t want nobody to hear it before the team hears it, obviously. They want them to hear it all at once. That’s how I want it to be as well just so I want them to be able to hear it. And I want them to run through a wall after that.”

Wayne’s Packers fandom dates back to 1997 when the Packers, then led by Gulf Coast legend Brett Favre, made Super Bowl XXXI in Weezy’s hometown of New Orleans. The Young Money leader’s father, Reginald, attended the game and after the Pack won, he brought home memorabilia for his young son. Thus, a now 24-year love for the Pack was born. In fact, Wayne was invited to perform at Lambeau Field in January 2020 during the Packers’ NFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.
